On July 25, 2023, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors (Board) unanimously approved a motion authored by Supervisors Holly Mitchell and Lindsey Horvath to adopt a Countywide vision, model, and a set of guiding principles for prevention and promotion including the creation of a Prevention and Promotion Systems Governing Committee (Committee).

The Board adopted this motion as a result of a report from the LA County Prevention Services Task Force, a multi-departmental Countywide effort supported by the Anti-Racism, Diversity, & Inclusion (ARDI) Initiative, which was charged with reimagining LA County's prevention systems and services. Over the past 18 months, the Task Force studied and analyzed barriers and opportunities to better integrate County services across physical and behavioral health services, social services, housing and homelessness, aging and independence programs, child welfare and family services, economic opportunity programs, and many other essential efforts of our County that support our communities.

The Task Force will reconvene this Friday, August 25, to discuss its transition plan and efforts to launch the Committee as well as a newly formed operational body called the Prevention and Promotion Coordination and Implementation Team (PPCIT). Members will also review the Committee and PPCIT’s various roles, responsibilities, and activities in detail, including how County staff and community members can continue contributing these important efforts to enhance County services for residents. During this key moment to launch new infrastructure, staffing, and capabilities for the Countyplease join to learn more and help inform the planning process.
