Writing your Non-Profit Business Plans Like a Pro
I went on a Amazon Book Binge the other day and purchased "Writing your Non-Profit Business Plans Like a Pro" which turns out to be a very thin book, only 34 pages long.
But the part that may be worth it here for LACCC, at least is in section 4 #2, Organization Overview- In this part you must explain what kind of non-profit you are or will become.
And this is where it goes on to explain the 9 different kinds of non-profits in some detail. Sure, maybe I could have found this in a google search. But now I have this in print, like a boss, er Pro.
501c1- entities established by an act of congress like Fed Cred Unions
501c2- Holding Companies for tax exempt organizations... (?)
501c3- private foundations or public charities
501c4- charitable, social, recreational, educational purposes
501c5- educational groups that aim to improve products, working conditions, & productivity for agriculture
501c6- work to improve working conditions in companies with ownership titles, economic rates, etc.
501c7- social and recreational clubs that promote entertainment and activities
501c8- associations and societies that receive fraternal support
501c9- voluntary associations of beneficiary workers who pay benefits, accident benefits and life insurance to their members
However it excludes the one I was told about -501(h) by Pam and Betty which they want to apply for, which has the suffix 'h".
Under the expenditure test, an organization that engages in excessive lobbying activity over a four-year period may lose its tax-exempt status, making all of its income for that period subject to tax. Should the organization exceed its lobbying expenditure dollar limit in a particular year, it must pay an excise tax equal to 25 percent of the excess.
