Eligibility for Hot Food from EBT (Food Stamps)

I received this email from DPSS after inquiring:

The Restaurant Meal Program allows eligible homeless, elderly, and/or disabled CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamp) recipients to purchase prepared low-cost or discount meals at participating restaurants or retail stores using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, also known as a Golden State Advantage card.  The Restaurant Meal Program is also available to the recipient’s spouse and cannot be extended to other household members.  Eligibility for this program is determined by the 58 individual county social/human services agencies that have elected to participate in the program.

Restaurants that accept the EBT card will typically have a sticker affixed to their window or door with the words, “We accept EBT.”  However, other signage may also be used.

The California Office of Systems Integration (COSI) maintains a listing of participating restaurants which is currently not available online.  An updated list is sent to participating counties on a weekly or monthly basis.  An individual may obtain a list of restaurants which accept EBT by e-mailing the COSI or by contacting their county’s social/human services agency.

Additionally, if you would like to discuss the Restaurant Meal Program in more detail and/or to determine if you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact your county’s social/human services agency.

You may visit the CDSS CalFresh Restaurant Meals Program website for additional information.

Hopefully, you will find this information helpful.
